Health, fitness and happiness as a twenty-something in the city

blogpost1

WELCOME on my journey to health, fitness and happiness! I’m a 25 year old who started this journey 4 years ago in my senior year of university.

Back then, I weighed 162.5 lbs. My day-to-day habits were very unhealthy. You know the term “skinny-fat”? I was that. I felt gross. I had horrific mood swings. I ate take-out 5 days of the week or not at all for the rest of the week to make up for it. I had to have naps every day because of my lack of energy. I looked forward to partying and drinking 3-4 times a week, and sleeping for 14 hours a day. I still exercised frequently, but without the other factors in harmony, my body and my mind were not happy.

Instead of accepting myself as “skinny-fat”, I made the decision to become strong, fit and healthy. Today, I can say that I have run a 5k, 10k, and 3 half-marathons. I can squat 140 lbs and deadlift 165 lbs. I can do 3 strict pull ups in a row. I can do 30 toe push-ups without stopping. Most importantly I’ve gone through the ups and downs of calorie counting, under-eating and binge eating to find a new, healthy relationship with food.

But it doesn’t end there; I’m continuing on expanding my knowledge of nutrition, cooking and fun fitness activities to connect with everyone going through this journey. I think we all know that a healthy, fit and happy lifestyle does not end once you reach that number on the scale, which is why I didn’t include my total weight loss. It’s a lifelong journey. It’s YOUR journey. It impacts every aspect of your life. Your job, your friends, your adventures, your travels, your relationships.

It doesn’t come without its set of really, really, really difficult challenges and its set of

GLORIOUS victories! That’s why I started this blog. My hope is that you can relate my posts to your own journey of health, fitness and happiness.
